OUR VINEYARDS
Our vineyards are located in the mountainous region of Achaia, at an altitude of 750-900m, fifty kilometers from the mountainous village of Kalavrita with the celebrated ski resort. This land sits on a peak where the three mountains of Panachaiko, Chelmos and Erymanthos meet, providing a unique exposure.
HIGH-ALTITUDE VITICULTURE
A microclimate with cool nights and mild days allows for a long grape maturation. The rugged topography with big slopes and excellent water drainage combine to create an ideal environment for low yields of less than 1kg of grape per vine and concentrated flavors. The vineyard has a north-eastern exposure, 4500 vines per hectare, and trellised using both unilateral and bilateral Cordon training to achieve perfectly matured grapes with elevated acidities and elegance.
The vineyard consists of two main vineyard blocks, Michaleika and Amygdalia. Michaleika is located at 750 meters elevation and consists mainly of sand and clay. This is the ideal location for Chardonnay, Moschofilero, Athiri and Lagorthi. Amygdalia is located at 900m elevation and consists mainly of clay and limestone. This is where our cool-climate Syrah, and white varieties Riesling, Muscat and indigenous grape variety Robola are grown.
Our belief is that high-altitude viticulture, exploration of the indigenous grape varieties, conservation of ecosystems, and polyculture are the answer to the climate change in order to continue to craft top quality, balanced wines in the future.
